Tom's Blogography

This blog is a combination autobiography and photo album. I'm sharing the orgins of my life with total strangers and posting some of the favorite images I have to both share - and to view online, from wherever in the world I may be.

Introduction:

I had an epiphany this morning, while in the shower. I get most of my ideas/revelations in the shower for some reason. Anway, I've decided to accomplish a few things - all in one fail swoop. I've wanted to begin working on an autobiography for a very long time - I expect it to take a long time to complete. Maybe, just maybe - I'll be famous one day. An autobiography will come in handy then - and I'd probably have less time available to write one, so why not do it now? I've also wanted to have an online photo album - a place to put my favorite pictures so that I can view them from anywhere in the world (as long as I can access the Internet that is), a place for family and friends to view the images, a place for total strangers to be able to "peek" into my life. I think "Blogger" is a great place to do this!

I'm also initiating this endeavor to help exercise and promote my writing skills, maybe - someday, some big important publisher or editor will stumble across my ramblings and be impressed. Impressed enough to offer me a contract, or work, or something along those lines. I'm already considered a professional freelance newspaper columnist - long title, low pay. I write a weekly column entitled "Internet Safari" - it is carried by Freedom Newspapers of New Mexico and is read by a lot of folks in Eastern New Mexico and West Texas. I've been writing the column for a little over two years now and it is very popular. I've sorta' turned into a local celebrity around these parts. My picture is included with the column every week, so now - whenever I'm out shopping or doing things with the family, people will come up to me and say things like "Aren't you that fella' in paper?" - that normally happens at least once a day, sometimes a lot more. Popularity is a two-edged sword though; popularity makes one much more visible - and to a lot of folks, much more available. I'm often asked to fix someone's computer, or to resolve an Internet related issue, or to recommend computer products. I don't mind helping people - but it does get tiring sometimes.

Let's get back track. This blog is going to begin at the beginning of my life. Details, comments, opinions, retrospect, Internet links, and images - they will all be included. I was born in 1959 - I'll probably start off by giving some background prior to that, i.e. parents, etc. I turn 45 in Feb. - I didn't give it much thought until a few weeks ago, now it's in my face, giving me dirty looks. I reckon' it's a milestone - it doesn't take much to remember my father at 45 and that is very scary, seems just like yesterday - and now, he's 65. It seems like now, if I blink I've used up 24 hours. Things should be reversed - time should fly by quickly when we are children (I was always bored and always impatient for things to change) and then slow down as we get older. I can't get enough done in one day - I need 36 hour days and 4 day weekends!

Enough for now,
